Si discute il topos filosofico del filosofo che ride e del filosofo che piange, in diversi periodi storici, affrontando la sua nascita ed evoluzione nel mondo latino, nel rinascimento e nel '700.
Sono descritte le diverse letture e interpretazioni del pensiero di Eraclito e Democrito, anche attraverso lo studio dei frammenti.
Si approfondisce la re-interpretazione del topos da parte di Friedrich Nietzsche, nelle diverse fasi di sviluppo del suo pensiero e nelle diverse opere. Da La nascita della tragedia allo Zarathustra e al Crepuscolo degli idoli, sono identificati i criteri di lettura del pensiero di Eraclito e Democrito in quanto simboli del topos filosofico. La lettura del topos da parte di Nietzsche è discussa a partire dalle interpretazioni che, diversi autori, hanno fornito, del pensiero del filosofo tedesco.

The philosophical topos of the laughing philosopher and the weeping philosopher is discussed across different historical periods, addressing its origins and development in the Latin world, the Renaissance, and the 18th century. The various readings and interpretations of the thought of Heraclitus and Democritus are described, including through the study of fragments. The reinterpretation of the topos in the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche is explored in depth, at various stages of his development and in his different works. From Die Geburt der Tragödie aus dem Geiste der Musik to Also sprach Zarathustra. Ein Buch für Alle und Keinen and Götzen-Dämmerung, the criteria for interpreting the thought of Heraclitus and Democritus as symbols of the philosophical topos are identified. Nietzsche's reading of the topos is discussed, starting from the interpretations of the German philosopher's thought by various later authors.
