Riassunto
This thesis presents the concept and the prototyping process of a novel IoT device, which aims at monitoring key parameters of a set of plants (light, temperature, soil moisture) in a plant laboratory setting, while being remotely accessible by lab workers.
The prototype is composed of a Raspberry Pi attached to custom hardware, including a newly designed soil moisture sensor. Elasticsearch and Kibana instances are used to aggregate and visualise data for users.
Tests showed that, although the soil moisture sensor proved capable of discerning pure conditions (i.e. dry soil or water), it was unfortunately not possible to be calibrated for satisfactory accuracy. Nonetheless, the rest of the hardware and software proved to work seamlessly.
