Attraverso lo studio della presenza etrusca ad Alalia/Aleria, l’obiettivo di questa ricerca è delineare la natura, le poste in gioco e i principali attori dell’espansione etrusca nel Mar Tirreno e nel Mediterraneo nord-occidentale tra la fine del VI e la prima metà del III secolo a.C. Questo lavoro si articola intorno a un approccio multidisciplinare grazie alla raccolta e alla messa in prospettiva di dati archeologici provenienti dalle necropoli di Aleria, di Cerveteri e di diversi siti dell’ager tarquiniensis, così come di fonti testuali relative all’Italia preromana e al contesto tirrenico. L’insieme di questi dati è interpretato alla luce dei recenti progressi della ricerca sull’espansione oltremare delle città dell’Etruria costiera; la necropoli di Casabianda; le mobilità e i fenomeni di integrazione inter-etnica nell’Italia preromana. Questa tesi comprende inoltre una vasta componente storiografica nella quale è stato studiato come la problematica del popolamento preromano della Corsica sia stata talvolta sfruttata da diversi attori scientifici per essere messa al servizio di discorsi ideologici. In questa direzione, abbiamo raccolto e studiato diverse opere prodotte in Italia durante il periodo fascista in cui alcuni studiosi dell’epoca hanno utilizzato il «fait étrusque en Corse» (D. Briquel) a favore delle rivendicazioni irredentiste del regime mussoliniano. A ciò si aggiunge una serie di lavori prodotti in Corsica dagli anni 1980 da accademici ed eruditi vicini al movimento nazionalista, in cui questa volta la problematica del popolamento preromano dell’isola è stata sfruttata per alimentare un discorso essenzialista sull’identità insulare contemporanea.


Through the study of the Etruscan presence in Alalia/Alaria, the aim of this research is to identify the nature, the issues and the main protagonists of Etruscan expansion in the Tyrrhenian and north-western Mediterranean between the end of the 6th and the first half of the 3rd century BC. This work is based on a cross-disciplinary approach based on the collection and comparison of archaeological data from the necropolises of Aleria, Cerveteri and various sites in the ager tarquiniensis, as well as textual sources relating to pre-Roman Italy and the Tyrrhenian context. All of this data is interpreted in the light of recent advances in research on the expansion of the cities of coastal Etruria overseas ; the necropolis of Casabianda ; the mobility and inter-ethnic integration in pre-Roman Italy.This thesis also includes a large historiographical component, in which we have studied how the issue of the pre-Roman settlement of Corsica has sometimes been taken up by various scientific protagonists and used in the service of ideological discourse. In this sense, we have brought together and studied various works produced in Italy during the Fascist period in which certain specialists used the Etruscan settlement in Corsica to support the irredentist claims of the Mussolini regime. In addition, there has been a series of studies produced in Corsica since the 1980s by academics and scholars close to the nationalist movement, in which the issue of the island's pre-roman settlement has been exploited to fuel an essentialist discourse on contemporary insular identity.
