Il lavoro di tesi si concentra sull’analisi di due romanzi dell’autore sudafricano Damon Galgut, The Promise e The Beautiful Screaming of Pigs, e sulla traduzione di quest’ultimo.
Attraverso i due capolavori Galgut ci rivela un passato doloroso che ha dilaniato le popolazioni della Namibia e del Sudafrica: l’apartheid.
Nei due romanzi la politica segregazionista del dopoguerra e le conseguenze che questa ha portato prendono le sembianze di un vero e proprio personaggio che si muove accanto ai vari protagonisti delle storie. Sotto quest’ottica critica la prima parte dell’elaborato fornisce l’analisi approfondita della Storia, dei personaggi e dei luoghi appartenenti al complesso mondo di Damon Galgut.
Al contrario, la seconda parte della tesi presenta la traduzione del romanzo The Beautiful Screaming of Pigs e un commento alla sua resa con la speranza di riuscire a contribuire tanto allo studio della realtà sudafricana e namibiana quanto alla diffusione delle opere dell’autore.


The Master’s thesis is centered on two of Damon Galgut’s novels, The Promise and The Beautiful Screaming of Pigs, and the translation of the latter.
Throughout the pages of those masterpieces, Damon Galgut unveils the treacherous past that had long maimed the populations of Namibia and South Africa: Apartheid.
In the novels, the postwar segregationist politics and their consequences turned out to be one character on its right alongside the protagonists of the stories. And it’s under those circumstances that the first part of this paper undertakes a journey exploring and describing the History, the places, and the characters of Galgut’s fictional world.
On the other hand, the second part of the thesis provides the translation and comment on The Beautiful Screaming of Pigs with the dual intent of both circulating the History of Namibia and South Africa and promoting Damon Galgut's works.
