Riassunto
Recently, a new promising delivery method, called FLASH radiotherapy, combines technological development and novel radiobiology by delivering ionizing radiation therapy at high dose rates (at least 40 Gy/s), much higher than the ones used in conventional radiotherapy (CONV-RT), which is usually 0.03 Gy/s. The aim of this work is to transform a pre-existing Inta-Operative-Radiotherapy (IORT) machine for electron FLASH-RT experiments, obtaining a device able to operate in an ultra high dose rate regime with a reproducible and simple methodology, providing reliable performance. The experimental measurements in order to verify relative and absolute dosimetric characterization demonstrated that the proposed design allows reaching a FLASH dose rate, which can be suitable both for dosimetric tests and for radiobiological studies on cells and small animals.
