Riassunto
This study gives a former knowledge about marine potholes, which are not been deeply investigated yet, contrary to the stream potholes and tries to examine the main process responsible of their development. Hence, the aim of this work is to investigate the role of abrasion in shaping potholes on shore platform of rocky coasts, in two different landscapes: Mediterranean Coast and Galician Coast.
The side of coast situated in the south area of Livorno (Italy), is composed by the so called ‘Calafuria’s arenaceous flysch’, while the Caamaño coast (Galicia), which is in north-western Spain, is characterized by shore platforms of igneous and metamorphic rocks. In order to conduct this study, a common protocol has been established for reducing the variability of conditions and make data comparable. All the data acquired by following the protocol were worked out and represented by charts and tables, and then discussed.
