Riassunto
The goal of this thesis is to use comparative genomics techniques to determine whether there are genomic differences which may account for the metabolic differences observed in five different yeast strains, which are evolutionary related: the European wine strain, the natural hybrid, the Alpechin, the Bioethanol, and the S. paradoxus strain. The starting materials are the sequenced genomes of the yeast strains and a list of metabolites found in each strain thanks to NMR experiments. We performed searches in genomic databases, searches based on the EC number, searches in the annotations, BLAST analyses, and metabolic maps were also used to visualize the results. This study is an attempt at integrating different kinds of multiomics data. No direct link has been found between the genomic differences and the observed metabolic differences in the analysed yeast strains, however it is still possible that the introgressed genes may be involved in promoting phenotypic differences between the strains tested in other conditions such as the environments where the strains have been isolated.
