Riassunto
The thesis work is concerned with the development of a microencapsulated system for the oral care industry.
In particular the work deals with the creation of microcapsules containing an antibacterial ingredient for the use in toothpaste formulations. Thanks to the controlled release of the antibacterial agent, the amount of germs in the mouth can be reduced over a long period and not only immediately after the brushing.
This leads to an improvement of the therapeutic effect of the toothpaste since the germs in the mouth are responsible for the formation of plaque, gum diseases and bad breathe.
Different coating materials for the microencasaulated system were tested and then the most promising system was improved. Several experiments were conducted to find the best production process and to evaluate the mechanism and the velocity of the release of the active agent in different relevant media.
