Riassunto
During the last few years, users all over the world have become more and more accustomed to the availability of high-speed Internet services.
Since the begin of Internet age, the utmost priority for users was the secure transmission of data. Such a transmission guarantees that no data is lost, duplicated or swapped in sequence, even if the transmission utilizes a link with non-zero bit error rate.
All the internet applications rely on a mechanism to guarantee failure free transmission over a non-ideal link.
If the problem was limited in wired communications, with the diffusion of wireless became more relevant.

An Automatic Repeat reQuest is a mechanism capable to guarantees secure transmission on data. The basic idea is very simple: in case of delivery of damaged packets, the receiver is capable of sending a special control packet to the sender, which indicates the need for retransmission of specific packets.

This work is focus on the realization and analysis of an Automatic Repeat reQuest scheme designed to work efficiently with the recent wireless technology : 802.16e/Mobile WiMax and Long Term Evolution (LTE).

WiMAX is a telecommunications technology, based on IEEE 802.16 Standard, aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access. Actually multiple vendors produce interoperable equipment with WiMax standard-based technology.

Long Term Evolution is the name given to a project within the 3GPP to improve the UMTS mobile phone standard to cope with future requirements. Goals include improving efficiency, lowering costs, improving services, making use of new spectrum opportunities, and better integration with other open standards.
