Riassunto
The thesis analyses the effectiveness of the African Union’s (AU) missions in addressing the continent's struggles and challenges. The organisation is an alliance of 54 African countries whose aim is to promote development and solidarity among its member countries. The context in most parts of the continent is complex and fragile, with the highest number of fragile states and the lowest rankings in terms of human development and GDP per capita. Starting from the historical background, the research explores the milestones of cooperation between African countries and the creation of the AU. The latter efforts to establish peace and stability have improved over time, even compared to its previous form. The structure of the study consists of quantitative and qualitative analysis, using both surveys and individual interviews. The results led to an up-to-date and focused analysis based on existing literature and data collected in the field. The final SWOT analysis and evaluation of the AU’s efficiency guarantee a clear and complete overview.
