Riassunto
This purpose presents the results of measurements made to characterize the G2G delays in head-mounted display (HMD) systems. The present study was carried out in collaboration with the company VREO Innovation Ltd.The company, based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), involved in the V.O.S.T.A.R.S. project, which is managed by the technical staff of the Department of Information Engineering and the Centre of Excellence EndoCAS for Computer Assisted Surgery.Relevant was understand which setup the best for above mentioned AR HMD system in terms of G2G latency is. The best configuration is obtained by evaluating the latency portion that each object in the transmission chain of the image from the camera to the display generates when the whole system is operating. The optimal hardware setup for the construction of this new HMD-VST technology is made up of AR0144 cameras connected to the NVIDIA Jetson TX1 by means of the Leopard OV580 (with USB 3.0 connection), the OV5693 (default camera with mipi connection) and the -CAM130. The results conducted using an Asus ROG Strix XG258Q LCD Monitor with 1ms E2E latency shows an average G2G latency of 42.23 ms.
