Le politiche europee mirano a creare una società e un’industria sostenibili che sappiano usare al meglio le moderne tecnologie. In questo quadro, il Digital Twin potrebbe essere utile per raggiungere gli obiettivi della futura Società 5.0 e Industria 5.0. Esso è la rappresentazione digitale in tempo reale di un oggetto fisico, di un processo, oppure di un intero sistema, e la sua potenza dipende dalle altre tecnologie abilitanti dell’Industria 4.0. Ciò comporta un continuo sviluppo in diversi settori, arrivando a replicare digitalmente città e, a breve, anche la Terra. Su queste basi, ci si domanda se il Digital Twin possa aiutare a raggiungere obiettivi sostenibili.


European policies aim to create a sustainable society and industry that can make the best use of modern technologies. In this framework, the Digital Twin could be useful to achieve the goals of the future Society 5.0 and Industry 5.0. It is the real-time digital representation of a physical object, a process, or an entire system, and its power depends on the other enabling technologies of Industry 4.0. This implies a continuous development in different sectors, going so far as to digitally replicate cities and, soon, even the Earth. On this basis, the question arises whether the Digital Twin can help achieve sustainable goals.
