Riassunto
The present work concerns itself with the topic of non-causal explanations within science (NCE). Non-causal explanations have been constantly drawing the attention of the scholarship on scientific explanation in the latest years, as they challenge the ‘causal imperialism’ (Bokulich 2018) established after the fall of Hempelian D-N Model. Within this framework, my purpose is twofold. On the one hand, I introduce and discuss four issues risen by NCE (the Demarcation Problem, the Interaction Problem, the Explanatory Problem and the Representational Problem), which constitute in my opinion the background philosopher of science interested in scientific explanation need to confront with. In my opinion these four issues make sense of the booming literature on the topic and provide a useful theoretical orientation in it. On the other hand, I ask whether one of the prominent accounts of NCE, the Counterfactual Theory Extended (CTE), is able to answer the four issues. I will claim that a methodological construal of CTE can provide such answers.
