Given the increasing need to reduce CO2 emissions, the Scotch Whisky Association has set a goal of achieving zero emissions by 2045.
This requires the elimination of natural gas use in boilers or as a direct heating method during distillation. This thesis project analyzes the integration of energy recovery technologies applied to a whisky production plant, such as heat pumps and mechanical vapor recompression (MVR), as these are highly energy-efficient systems.
Furthermore, the performance of each optimized configuration is analyzed by comparing the specifications of the machines proposed by suppliers with the process requirements.
Finally, an economic evaluation of each configuration was carried out, assessing the profitability of each proposed investment.
