Riassunto
In this thesis, the first objective was the hydrogeochemical and isotopic characterization of Lake Prespa trying to improve knowledge on the geochemical processes that affect lake waters. Lake Prespa, located on the border between Macedonia, Albania and Greece, is part of the UNESCO cross-border reserve with lake Ohrid. The evidence of progressive eutrophication, and the little knowledge on Lake Prespa is an high motivation to expand the existing studies. In this work, were analyzed samples from Prespa lakes and its catchment collected during a fieldtrip on September 2015. The samples were analyzed for major ions, trace elements, ammonia, DIC and water stable isotopes at the IGG-CNR in Pisa. The results show that lakes waters are calcium-bicarbonate as waters taken from Prespa catchment; significant differences are observed only in alkalinity, silica and ions concentrations. In conclusion, during summer season, Lake Prespa is characterized from high primary productivity with calcite precipitation in surface waters and high accumulation of organic matter at the lake bottom with development of anoxic condition in hypolimnion. It is observed that water of the Golema stream has higher concentrations of N-NH3, Mn and Fe than the other sampling waters in the catchment area.
