The study of morphosyntactic alignment plays a prominent role in different fields of current linguistic research and non-canonical subjects have received increasing interest among scholars, proved by the amount of specialized literature in the past decades of years. In spite of that, no extensive analysis on the topic regarding Ancient Greek has been carried out. This work aims to fill this gap by examining, in the light of ancient texts and modern syntactic theory, the behavior of non-canonical subjects in an early attested Indo-European language with a consistent nominative-accusative alignment.
