Il presente lavoro di tesi propone la traduzione di due testi di Margaret Atwood: For the Birds e Burning Questions. Il primo è un racconto per bambini in cui l’autrice narra le vicende di Samantha, una giovane protagonista trasformata in uccello, che si trova ad affrontare una serie di difficoltà. Attraverso queste esperienze, Samantha scopre le minacce ambientali con cui gli uccelli convivono quotidianamente — minacce che riguardano anche l’essere umano.
Il secondo testo è una selezione di tre discorsi tratti dalla raccolta di saggi Burning Questions, in cui Atwood affronta nuovamente tematiche ambientali, questa volta rivolgendosi a un pubblico adulto.
Attraverso un’analisi linguistica condotta in ottica traduttologica, la tesi si propone di delineare una strategia efficace per tradurre i testi e lo stile di Atwood per un pubblico italiano. Inoltre, mira a tracciare una mappa delle modalità con cui il linguaggio scientifico può essere adattato per comunicare le minacce ambientali ai bambini, mettendolo a confronto con quello impiegato nei discorsi destinati agli adulti.

This thesis presents a translation proposal for two works by Margaret Atwood: For the Birds and Burning Questions. The first is a children's story in which the author tells the tale of Samantha, a young girl transformed into a bird, who faces a series of challenges. Through these experiences, she learns about the environmental threats that birds face daily—threats that also endanger humans.
The second text is a selection of three speeches from the essay collection Burning Questions, where Atwood once again addresses environmental issues, this time speaking to an adult audience.
Through a linguistic analysis from a translation studies perspective, this thesis aims to outline an effective strategy for rendering Atwood’s texts and style accessible to an Italian readership. It also seeks to map how scientific language can be adapted to communicate environmental threats to children, comparing it with the language used in speeches aimed at adults.
