Riassunto
This thesis focuses on the evolution of the digital payments market in Europe and Italy.
It starts with an introduction to the concepts of money (and its taxonomy) and digital payment, then the regulatory environment surrounding EU players who are active in this market is explained.
After that, the main instrument and underlying technologies enanbling digital payment instruments are shown, matched with some statistical curious data.
The end is about my internship in a consultant firm active in this field and other business cases analyzed to understand the current market shifts and transformations of the industry of payments and their impact in the banking sector, which ceased to be the only one enabled and active in payments.
