The present work aims to provide the first full-length commentary to the Homeric Hymn to Pan (h.Pan), together with an introduction ad a new edition and translation of the text. The introduction focuses mainly on the question of the genre (h.Pan as an intermediate-length hymn) and on the problem of the structure, exploring new approaches to engage the text. The other sections of the introduction discuss the language, metre, place and date of composition. The edition, followed by an Italian translation, does not relie on a new “recensio codicum” nor on an autoptic reading of the manuscripts, but it aims to update the latest one (by F. Càssola, Milano 1975). The commentary is organised into eight parts - according to the thematic sections of the Hymn -, each one introduced by a preliminary discussion, and is structured as a word-by-word analysis, aiming to deepen philological, linguistic and literary questions and to offer a wide range of “loci paralleli” as well as of bibliographical resources.
