The aim of this dissertation is to explore the process of construction and de/re-construction in the comparative analysis of two contemporary novels: "Atonement" and "Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit". From different points of view (literary, linguistic, philosophic and psychological) narrative strategies, themes and linguistic organization have been analysed in McEwan's historiographic metafiction and Winterson's semi-autobiography. The process of construction and de/re-construction functions in such a way that the authors question all kinds of traditional/ standardized concepts and develop some alternative ways of thinking.
