This thesis is based on the Edo-Valves project, a pre-clinical trial carried out by Professor Raffaele De Caterina and his large team of collaborators at the University of Pisa and Pisa University Hospital. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the anticoagulant drug edoxaban in preventing thrombosis in a swine model with a recently implanted mechanical heart valve. The preliminary section of this thesis presents a comprehensive overview of valvular heart disease and the prevailing therapeutic options. The second part is devoted to the specific research project.
Questa tesi si basa sul progetto Edo-Valves, una sperimentazione pre-clinica condotta dal professor Raffaele De Caterina e dal suo gruppo di collaboratori presso l'Università di Pisa e l'Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Pisana. L'obiettivo di questo studio è valutare l'efficacia del farmaco anticoagulante edoxaban nel prevenire la trombosi in un modello suino con una valvola cardiaca meccanica. La sezione preliminare di questa tesi presenta una panoramica sulle valvulopatie e sulle rispettive opzioni terapeutiche. La seconda parte è dedicata al progetto di ricerca.
