Summary
Thermal analysis are very powerful techniques due to their capacities to monitoring degree of degradation in every single component of polymeric organic materials like wood and leather.
In this thesis, waterlogged wood and leather samples treated with innovative pre-conservative methods were analysed by Py-GC/MS and EGA-MS to investigate the applicability of these methods and their effects on real archeological samples. Conservative status of the main polimerical structures of wood (lignin and holocellulose) and leather (tannins and proteins) was determined.
