Riassunto (Inglese)
This thesis covers the whole design chain of a Serious Game for rehabilitation with a robotic platform for the hand and wrist: from functional requirements to experimental results on unimpaired subjects, at the Wearable Robotics Laboratory of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
The requirements, defined with the clinical team, were translated into game mechanics through an explicit scheme: every element maps onto a motor function to be trained or assessed, from fine tracking inside the active range of motion to reaching and briefly holding the joint limits, up to making control errors visible. The game, developed in Unity, is a third person scrolling task in which forward progression is predefined and lateral position is driven by the flexion-extension angle, remapped onto the subject's calibrated range. The three levels progress accordingly, from range exploration to moving and falling obstacles for anticipatory control and responsiveness, and the game communicates with the robot over UDP between LabVIEW and Unity.
The protocol decouples difficulty from resistance: 10 subjects, three levels by four modalities. In the analysis every run is compared against a minimum-jerk reference trajectory, computed from the layout alone, which turns it into a measurable error. In unimpaired subjects the score saturates, the kinematics does not: the game does not only sustain engagement, it specifies the movement, and that is what makes the robot's measurements interpretable.
