Riassunto
This research explores the consequences of Brexit on the Conservative Party's internal dynamics. This study argues that the Conservative Party's experience with Brexit reveals broader themes in British politics, such as party behavior in Parliament, the importance of cohesion, and the relationship between Parliament and the government.
The first chapter delves into how the European question has fractured the Conservative Party over time. The distinction between soft and hard Euroscepticism within the party becomes crucial in understanding the evolution of the Conservative position in Europe.
The second chapter traces the evolution of internal dissent within the Conservative Party from the 2016 referendum to the start of the UK's transition phase in 2020. It analyzes changes in party composition, MPs' voting preferences on EU issues, and the role of pressure groups like the European Research Group (ERG).
The third chapter examines Brexit's impact on the internal dynamics Conservative Party, including the emergence of factions and groups like the ERG. Interviews with individuals closely associated with the party offer valuable perspectives.
