Riassunto (Inglese)
This thesis analyses J. McCullough’s Golf in the Year 2000, or, What We Are Coming To (1892) and provides a complete Italian translation of the novel. The work is examined within the context of the Victorian era, with particular attention to the role of women, golf, and the innovations of the future imagined by the author. The novel is also compared with Edward Bellamy’s Looking Backward: 2000–1887, a literary success published in 1888. The final chapter analyses the main translation difficulties and the strategies adopted to preserve the style, humour, and cultural references of the original. The main question of this thesis is the following: can Golf in the Year 2000 be considered a parody of Looking Backward?
