In this thesis, we first design and prototype a microservice-based IoT application (Giò Plants), capable of managing indoor plants within a building by measuring their soil moisture level, temperature and light intensity, and of watering them when needed.
We then design and prototype a platform (FogLute), on top of Kubernetes, to support the automated, context-aware deployment of multi-service applications to a Fog infrastructure.
Finally, we validate both prototypes by exploiting FogLute to deploy the Giò Plants application over a real infrastructure set up at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa, Italy.
