Nowadays the terms Industry 4.0 and Big Data have become buzzwords as they are expected to radically change the industrial landscape. Above all, organisations around the world are realising the importance of data which have the potential to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the company, by revealing new, valuable insights, once analysed. Although a full adoption of Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Industry 4.0 is still far away, it is possible to find some related projects of firms operating in different sectors. This research project is aimed to discover good practices related to those concepts in order to develop a roadmap to be used by a generic company as support in starting its journey towards Big Data Analytics in the context of Industry 4.0. The starting point of this study consists of a state-of-the-art literature review. This literature review encompasses a research on definitions of the concepts, terminology, technologies, features, benefits and challenges of both Industry 4.0 and BDA. The acquired knowledge enabled the design of a questionnaire, which was distributed to explore new insights from practitioners. Finally, the key findings are integrated to provide recommendations in a form of roadmap.
