Riassunto
The aim of this study is to investigate contemporary narrative through the analysis of the novels that won the Booker Prize, which is now a world-renowned literary award. The first chapter retraces the history of the Booker Prize from its origin to its success and identifies tendencies among the winning novels from 1969 to 2024. In order to carry out the survey, I divided the novels into phases (using decades as reference points) and categorised them into genres and trends. The following three chapters analyse, in chronological order, three winning novels of the last ten years: Richard Flanagan's "The Narrow Road to the Deep North", George Saunders' "Lincoln in the Bardo" and Bernardine Evaristo's "Girl, Woman, Other". The choice of a Postcolonial, an American and a British author broadens the borders and the inclusiveness of the research, in line with the latest objectives of the Booker Prize. The study of the narrative techniques and main themes of the selected novels leads to a better understanding of the contemporary interests of critics and readers.
