The present thesis investigates the occupation of the Mittelfeld and the ordering of its constituents (Satzgliedfolge) from the perspective of Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF) didactics. The Mittelfeld is the central field of the German sentence and can contain numerous constituents that follow one another according to conspicuous combinatorial variants. These variants are attributable to syntactic and informational factors, but also depend on the semantic and structural properties of each constituent. Given the lack of unambiguous rules, the Satzgliedfolge can be a difficult issue to deal with in DaF teaching, especially for learners who speak languages that are typologically different from German, such as Italian, to the extent that even teaching manuals deal with the subject inadequately. These problems are evident in the university environment because students read authentic texts that may present Mittelfeld structures that are difficult to decode. For the purposes of the project, the specific analysis difficulties encountered by the students were identified and systematised. Through the examination of the exercises performed, solution proposals were made for each problem. The thesis provides a new, scientifically grounded illustration of the Satzgliedfolge phenomenon that can be used in a university DaF perspective, enhancing the students' linguistic awareness and promoting understanding of the more complex Mittelfelder.
