La tesi si propone di confrontare, in tre capitoli dedicati alla figura di Tiberio prima sotto Augusto (cap. 1) e poi durante il suo principato negli ambiti della politica interna (cap. 2) e provinciale ed estera (cap. 3), le fonti storiografiche (soprattutto Tacito, Cassio Dione e Svetonio) con le informazioni offerte invece dalle testimonianze materiali (prevalentemente epigrafiche e numismatiche, ma anche storico-artistiche). Il lavoro si pone come finalità un'analisi a tutto tondo della figura storica e politica di Tiberio, ma anche l'interpretazione dei punti di convergenza e soprattutto di divergenza che emergono tra le due citate categorie di fonti.
This thesis aims to compare in three chapters dedicated to Tiberius firstly under Augustus (chap. 1) and then during his own principate in the fields of both domestic (chap. 2) and provincial and foreign policy (chap. 3) the main historiographical sources (especially Tacitus, Cassius Dio, and Suetonius) and the information offered on the other hand by the material sources (mainly epigraphical and numismatical, but also art-history sources). The thesis intends to present a thorough analysis of Tiberius' historical and political figure as well as an interpretation of those points of convergence and especially divergence such as emerge from the comparison between said categories of sources.
