Riassunto (Italiano)
Consolidation in Cloud Platforms is a technique that aims at serving a set of virtual machines with the minimum number of physical machines possible, allowing to implement energy efficient techniques by turning off unused servers. Consolidation can lead to run hundreds of heterogeneous virtual machines on the same server, which can create performance issues, leading to service level agreement violations. The aim of this thesis is to study the performance of servers hosting a large number of virtual machine and analyze the problems that can arise via experimental analysis to propose solutions to mitigate such issues by changing the policy through which consolidation of virtual machines is carried out.
