Blockchain is one of the most emerging technologies of the last years. After its introduction, as the key technology behind Bitcoin electronic cash system, many other applications were developed exploiting the big advantages provided by this revolutionary technology. Building a blockchain-based application may involve big advantages from both technical and economical point of views, providing at the same time better security features, higher performances and less management costs. In this thesis, blockchain technology will be deeply explored in the context of a specific use case: the traceability and certification of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). The goal is to create a real system based on this technology, taking a look at how blockchain can be integrated with other successful technologies like IoT, OAuth, Publish-Subscribe, Angular, etc.. The last contribution of this work is to provide a support for the correct dimensioning of the blockchain system, also proposing an innovative mechanism for real-time auto-tuning of parameters.
