Riassunto
Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) have gained increasing prominence in the aeronautic industry for the fabrication of structural components. Among the paramount considerations in the design of these constituents, damping assumes a position of critical significance. However, the elucidation of this phenomenon remains an ongoing pursuit, necessitating comprehensive comprehension.
In this context, an investigative endeavor has been undertaken to scrutinize existent damping models. These models have been subsequently integrated into finite element codes, enabling the derivation of numerical outcomes. Comparative analysis between these computational results and empirical findings derived from vibration experiments on carbon fiber composite plates has been executed. Throughout this investigation, salient merits and limitations inherent to each model have been delineated. Moreover, a proposal for the refinement of existing methodologies has been introduced.
The research progression extends further to the exploration of the interfacial region between the fiber and matrix and its implication on damping of the structure. Novel specimens, designed with chemically different interphases, have been fabricated and subjected to vibration testing.
