Il presente studio si è centrato sul valore e il peculiare significato che la figura della madre e il concetto della maternità assumono nel pensiero filosofico e nell’opera letteraria di Miguel de Unamuno.
La maternità viene presa in esame prima in chiave storica, poi viene analizzata alla luce della riflessione filosofica e religiosa di Unamuno. Il corpo centrale della tesi contiene l'analisi di alcune opere emblematiche per la concezione della maternità unamuniana. Gli ultimi cinque capitoli della tesi, infatti, hanno per titolo il nome di ognuna delle madri protagoniste delle opere in questione.

This study has focused on the value and the particular meaning that the figure of the mother and the concept of motherhood assume in the philosophical thought and literary work of Miguel de Unamuno. Motherhood is studied first in historical perspective, then analyzed in the light of the philosophical and religious thought of Unamuno. At the heart of the thesis there is the analysis of some emblematic literary works for Unamuno's vision of the motherhood. For this reason, the last five chapters of the thesis are named with the name of the mothers protagonists of the analyzed works.
