Riassunto
ATC is a rare but extremely aggressive cancer of the thyroid. Preoperative identification of ATC could facilitate better initial patient management without any treatment delay. High-grade features (necrosis and mitoses) and the cellularity can be diffucult recognised with the only fine needle aspiration (FNAC) for a definitive diagnosis of ATC. Tru-cut needle biopsy may be used as an alternative to FNAC for the assessment of other kind of tumor. Aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic efficacy of trucut biopsy and FNAC in a big series of locally advanced neck tumors suspicious for ATC selected in a single centre.
