Il seguente elaborato è un’analisi letteraria di tre racconti a tema AIDS, rispettivamente “Nothing To Ask For” di Dennis McFarland, “I See Your Cup Is Empty” di David Steinberg, e “Despair” di David B. Feinberg. La tesi è strutturata in due sezioni: nella prima viene presentato un panorama storico e culturale provocato dall’epidemia dell’AIDS e, inoltre, s'introduce la teoria del trauma, focalizzandosi su quegli elementi che sono stati presi in considerazione per svolgere lo studio. La seconda parte consiste nell'analisi vera e propria dei racconti: questi vengono analizzati a livello di trama, stile e linguaggio, personaggi e, per concludere, dal punto di vista socio-culturale, sempre attraverso la prospettiva del trauma.

The following thesis presents a literary analysis of three short stories: “Nothing To Ask For” by Dennis McFarland, “I See Your Cup Is Empty” by David Steinberg, and “Despair” by David B. Feinberg. The thesis is divided into two sections: the first one is about a historical and cultural overview of the AIDS epidemic. Furthermore, it provides those elements of trauma theory that are essential for the following analysis. The second part consists of the analysis section; the stories are read from the perspective of trauma, focusing on plot, style and language, characters, and on the socio-cultural background.
