Riassunto
This thesis covers the design and the development of an immersive Virtual Reality application that aims to provide an easier way to train operators for industrial maintenance operations. Training a specialized workforce often requires huge amount of time, resources and logistic facilities. Virtual Reality introduces significant benefits in the training processes by removing the need of often cumbersome and expensive physical mockups. At the same time it allows multiple trainees to work simultaneously, whilst with physical machine trainee would operate one at a time.
In this document is described how these aforementioned issues were addressed by exploiting HMDs such as the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift, using the Unreal Engine to develop the Virtual Reality application.
