Riassunto (Inglese)
This thesis examines Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom by David W. Blight through a commented translation of selected passages from the work. The study is divided into three main sections. The first provides the historical, cultural, and historiographical background of Frederick Douglass and highlights Blight's contribution to the reinterpretation of his role in American history. The second focuses on the main translation issues encountered, discussing the strategies adopted to render the linguistic, cultural, and ideological aspects of the source text into Italian. The third presents the annotated translation of selected chapters from the book. The thesis demonstrates that translation is not merely a linguistic transfer but also an act of cultural mediation, essential for conveying to Italian readers the complexity of Douglass's thought and the historical significance of Blight's work.
