Riassunto (Inglese)
This work analyses the results of two excavation campaigns (1993–1994) conducted by S. Bruni in the ex-Area Scheibler, in the north-western sector of Pisa. The area, crossed by the Auser river until the 17th century, shows evidence of occupation from the Bronze Age, with the first stable settlement documented from the late 7th century BC.
The excavations uncovered the remains of a sub-rectangular hut with a timber post structure and perishable walls. The research identifies five phases of occupation: the first two (7th–6th century BC) are characterised by the hut and a predominantly domestic ceramic assemblage — bucchero and argilloscisti impasto ware — with an almost total absence of imported goods. Phase III marks the decline of the settlement towards the end of the 6th and beginning of the 5th century BC, followed by a stratigraphic hiatus of approximately three centuries, attested only by sparse residual materials. Phase IV (2nd–1st century BC) documents a renewed occupation in the Hellenistic period, likely connected to agricultural exploitation and river trade, accompanied by abundant imports. Phase V, finally, attests to a system of land-drainage channels datable to the second half of the 1st century BC – early 1st century AD.
