Digital Transformation is considered as one of the most important trends in the globalized economy we live in that has already transformed most sectors and disrupt some. Many benefits seem to come from “going digital”, but society as a whole is also exposed to numerous challenges. One of the sectors with a great potential for digital transformation is Higher Education in universities, as the newly available technologies can enhance learning experiences and increase access to education. However, digital strategies in universities often meet strong resistance, making hard for such a complex institution to implement actual change and fulfil stakeholders’ expectations at the same time. In this context, COVID-19 pandemic functioned as a propeller for change, forcing the rapid and impressive shift to a higher level of digitalisation for universities worldwide. This inevitable and unforeseen transformation had a profound impact on the organisation of higher education institutions; readiness, efficiency and collaboration will be crucial to remain relevant in the new global knowledge economy.
