My thesis is composed of five chapters. In the first chapter, I examine the historical development of physical education from the mid-nineteenth century to the post-World War II period, and how the role of the physical education teacher has changed over time.
The second chapter focuses on the child’s holistic development, considering not only the motor dimension but also cognitive and social-relational aspects.
The third chapter addresses the concept of interdisciplinarity from both theoretical and pedagogical perspectives. It also illustrates how teaching has evolved from a knowledge-based approach to a competency-based approach. The fourth chapter explores the cross-curricular connections between physical education and other school subjects.
Finally, the fifth and last chapter discusses the challenges and future prospects of interdisciplinarity in motor sciences within primary education.

La mia tesi è composta da cinque capitoli. Nel primo capitolo ho trattato dell'evoluzione storica dell'educazione motoria da metà '800 fino al secondo dopo guerra e di come è cambiato nel tempo il ruolo dell'insegnante di educazione fisica. Nel secondo capitolo argomento dello sviluppo globale del bambino non solo da un punto di vista motorio ma anche cognitivo e relazionale. il terzo capitolo parla del tema dell'interdisciplinarità in modo teorico e pedagogico e illustra altresì come l'insegnamento evolve da una didattica rivolta alle conoscenze verso una didattica mirata alle competenze. il quarto capitolo spiega le connessioni trasversali tra l'educazione motoria e le altre discipline. infine l'ultimo capitolo si sofferma sulle criticità e prospettive future dell'interdisciplinarità delle scienze motorie nella scuola primaria.
