Riassunto
The main objective of this project is to structurally analyze the application of Aluminium foam sandwich structure for the Payload Adapter System 937C (PAS-937C) from Ariane V Launcher. Proper models were designed with CATIA V5 R21 and then imported to ANSYS software to perform Linear Buckling Analysis, Nonlinear Buckling Analysis and Shear Verification Test to study the Static Structural response of the structure. Moreover, Modal Analysis was also conducted to test its Dynamic Response, both with the structure alone and with a Dummy spacecraft acting as a sample payload using the specified aluminium foam sandwich structures.
All tests were passed satisfactorily by the structure, meaning that the Aluminium foam sandwich application on PAS 937C is structurally reliable for the expected loads experienced during a typical launch of the Ariane V.
Moreover, some words were given on the manufacturing process for the Aluminum Ring – Aluminium Foam Sandwich Conical Shell interface. This interface is manufactured using co-bonding technology.
