Il presente elaborato ha l’obiettivo di analizzare, attraverso un’accurata e personale selezione di testi, la rappresentazione della figura del vampiro, e le sue varie metamorfosi, all’interno della letteratura ispano-americana che va dal XIX al XXI secolo. Proprio per questo, il lavoro parte da una breve introduzione sulle origini europee del fenomeno e sull’esplosione della cosiddetta vampiromania durante il Secolo della Ragione, per poi entrare nel vivo dell’analisi letteraria mettendo in luce i tratti distintivi e sovrannaturali del mostruoso succhiasangue che si insinua nella realtà degli uomini, agendo con il favore delle tenebre. Tra i vari autori presi in considerazione vi sono Rubén Darío, Horacio Quiroga, Clemente Palma ma anche Alejandra Pizarnik e Carlos Fuentes che riproponendo, rispettivamente, il mito della sanguinaria contessa Erzsébet Báthory e del conte Dracula, mostrano quanto sia labile il confine tra umano e mostruoso. Il successivo e ultimo riferimento a Julio Cortázar porta l’immagine del vampiro su un piano più politico e metaforico, evidenziando il carattere vampirico delle multinazionali americane.

This thesis aims to analyse, through an accurate and personal selection of texts, the representation of the figure of the vampire, and its various metamorphoses, within Spanish-American literature ranging from the 19th to the 21st century. Precisely for this reason, the work starts from a brief introduction on the European origins of the phenomenon and the explosion of the so-called vampire mania during the Century of Reason, and then gets to the heart of the literary analysis by highlighting the distinctive and supernatural traits of the monstrous bloodsucker that insinuates itself into the reality of men, acting under the cover of darkness. Among the various authors taken into consideration are Rubén Darío, Horacio Quiroga, Clemente Palma but also Alejandra Pizarnik and Carlos Fuentes who, by re-proposing, respectively, the myth of the bloodthirsty Countess Erzsébet Báthory and Count Dracula, show how fragile the boundary between human and monstrous is. The subsequent and final reference to Julio Cortázar brings the image of the vampire to a more political and metaphorical level, highlighting the vampiric character of American multinationals.
