Riassunto
The master thesis aimed at providing an overview of the premiums’ market volume the reinsurance engineering industry might gain in +20 years, with a focus only on the energy and infrastructure sectors. In order to do so, the methodology was to estimate first the investments that will be made in these markets and then to build a case applying premium’ rates according to each technology.
First, the thesis presented an introduction on the engineering reinsurance industry, followed by a brief study of some models used nowadays to forecast energy demand and consumption and to estimate the infrastructure needed in the long-term future. Then, some existing outlooks have been studied and their results compared. The choice of selecting the International Energy Agency (IEA) yearly outlook as the primary source for the energy-related investments has been made together with a robust validation of the past predicted power capacity installations. Then, the work followed with an overview of the worldwide future planned and estimated investments, clustering them on a region and industry basis. Finally, the study concluded with the identification of potential opportunities for the Swiss Re engineering market, gained through several interviews with the company regional offices' representatives as well as with the predicted engineering premiums volume.
