Riassunto
This thesis project explores the rarity score and its criticisms and proposes a brand new way to assess the quality of an asset in the NFT market scenario. Rarity score is a static indicator used by many NFT navigators such as Rarity Sniper and rarity.tools to assess the quality of a token. The rarity score measures the scarcity of an NFT based on the scarcity of the attributes of the traits that belong to the token. When all NFTs of a trait-based collection are published, this indicator becomes a static feature of the token. This static behavior does not match the dynamism of NFT market, therefore it may drive a buyer to purchase a token that is not worth its value. For this reason, this study proposes a new indicator that better fits a dynamic and free-from-authority market such as NFT's. In particular, the proposed indicator, called "popularity" score evaluates the popularity of an NFT based on the sales of NFTs that share the same traits. This makes popularity a dynamic score that adapts based on market conditions, rather than evaluating NFTs solely based on the occurrence of traits. In the thesis, we show that popularity is much more related to NFT market indicators compared to rarity, and we also propose a practical use of the score.
