Riassunto
Stigmatization and discrimination associated whit overweight and obesity are well documented as a pervasive feature of societies in both north and south of the world. Many evidence suggest how anti-fat context may act as “significant driver of population level weight gain and the obesity epidemic itself”(Obesity stigma as a globalizing health challenge).
The aim of the thesis was to assess the magnitude of explicit weight bias in a sample of students and healthcare operators. A web-based survey was completed by 210 participants, composed of: nutritionists (40%), human nutrition students (28%), physicians (14%), dietitians (12%) and nurses (6%).
The survey included two validated measures of explicit weight bias: fat-phobia scale and anti-fat attitudes questionnaire.
