• Berlinghiero

This work analyzes the pictorial production of the workshop of Berlinghiero and his sons, active in Lucca and the surrounding area for much of the 13th century (ca. 1210-1280). The research focuses not only on the founder and the painters whose identities are known to us from sources, such as Bonaventura and Marco di Berlinghiero, but also on a series of artists who formed the circle of Berlinghiero's workshop. Not only did they work outside of Lucca, but they also provide insight into the development and diffusion of the workshop's stylistic features, which, with the exception of Marco's experience in Emilia, were limited to the Lucca-Pisa-Florence area.
The study opens with some introductory chapters regarding the documentation concerning the painters of the workshop and a summary examination of the artistic situation in Italy in the thirteenth century. It then moves on to the iconographic, and where possible iconological, analysis of the works, divided according to a typological criterion.

Il lavoro analizza la produzione pittorica della bottega di Berlinghiero e dei figli, attivi a Lucca e nel territorio circostante per buona parte del secolo XIII (1210-1280 ca.). La ricerca non si sofferma solo sul capostipite e sui pittori la cui identità ci è resa nota dalle fonti, come nel caso di Bonaventura e Marco di Berlinghiero, ma anche su una serie di artefici che costituirono la cerchia della bottega berlinghieresca e che non solo lavorarono anche al di fuori del territorio lucchese, ma ci danno anche un’idea dello sviluppo e della diffusione degli stilemi della bottega stessa, che si riveleranno essere circoscritti alla zona lucchese-pisano-fiorentina, tranne che per l’esperienza emiliana di Marco.
Lo studio si apre con alcuni capitoli introduttivi riguardanti la documentazione concernente i pittori della bottega ed una disamina riassuntiva della situazione artistica dell’Italia nel Duecento per poi passare all’analisi iconografica, e dove possibile iconologica, delle opere, suddivise secondo un criterio tipologico.
