In questa tesi, dopo aver fornito un quadro generale delle ricerche sull’assiomatica della geometria dell’Ottocento e dei maggiori esponenti internazionali, si ripercorrono le opere e i passaggi principali della trattazione sui fondamenti della geometria in Italia durante il XIX secolo, da Peano a Pieri, passando per Segre, Veronese, Amodeo, Fano, Vailati ed Enriques, cercando di evidenziarne le fasi salienti e le idee innovative, che contribuiscono al passaggio alla concezione moderna di geometria e fungono da ispirazione a Hilbert e a molti altri matematici di quel secolo e dei successivi.

In this dissertation, after providing an overview of the research on the axiomatics of geometry in the nineteenth century and its major international exponents, we trace the main works and steps in the treatment of the foundations of geometry in Italy during the nineteenth century, from Peano to Pieri, through Segre, Veronese, Amodeo, Fano, Vailati and Enriques, seeking to highlight the most significant stages and innovative ideas that contributed to the transition to the modern conception of geometry and served as an inspiration to Hilbert and many other mathematicians of that century and subsequent ones.
