Riassunto
Objectives : to evaluate the immediate and long-term outcome of neonates and infants with pulmonary valve stenosis (PVS) undergone successful percutaneous balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty (PV) within 12 months of age.
Methods: retrospective review of the paper-based archives and digital databases of our Institution identified 96 patients (pts), from June 1988 to February 2017, with moderate to critical PVS who underwent PV within 12 months of age; 4 of them were excluded from study population because of procedural failure.
Immediate outcome, successive surgical and interventional procedures and long-term follow-up (FU) (>1 year) data, evaluated by echocardiography, were analyzed.
Conclusions: in our experience, immediate and long-term results of PV in neonates and infants are favorable, with a low incidence of PI and need of surgery in the long term; therefore, transcatheter treatment can be considered the technique of choice in this kind of pts.
