Riassunto
In the context of the energy transition and the growing demand for sustainable energy carriers, this thesis examines the techno-economic feasibility of a maritime supply chain for the transport of green hydrogen from Egypt to Italy, with the final destination being the port of Piombino. Two scenarios are analyzed, based respectively on liquefied hydrogen and liquefied ammonia, assessing for each case the most advanced technologies currently available for production, conversion, storage, and shipping. Starting from an annual demand of 10,000 tonnes of hydrogen, an energy and logistics model is developed to estimate the efficiencies, energy consumption, and costs across the entire supply chain. The study includes the design of a hybrid renewable energy plant, the calculation of the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen, and an investment analysis incorporating capital and operational expenditures over a 30-year horizon. The analysis also considers the possibility of reducing maritime transport emissions through a conversion of ship propulsion systems to hydrogen or ammonia. The results provide an integrated view of the critical parameters affecting the development of long-distance hydrogen logistics between North Africa and Europe.
